It is pertinent, in any society, to know one’s place and the Brask are no exception. The males are expected to become warriors. Those who fail are either killed or flee into the wastes in hopes of meeting a group of bandits or joining a free clan.

The males who refuse to enter the warrior training are allowed to live in Dieron or any other imperial town but hold no status in society.

Imperial Brask females are not allowed to be warriors but are no less ruthless. As the women like strong males, so the males like strong women. A common saying is “Strong women birth strong men.” It is common to have females fighting, literally, over a prized warrior and a young captain would have pick of all the available girls in the empire.

Besides birthing children, the women are expected to tend to the children and see that they know the Brask ways. Such dutiful work is not for a weak or strong willed female alike. But there are always alternatives, and on Verako the alternative is the Free Clans.
